Meet Dave Morris, Area Sales Manager keeping manufacturing processes running cleanly

In our latest Employee Spotlight, we’re talking to Dave Morris, our new Area Sales Manager, about how he builds dust and fume extraction solutions that keep our customers’ staff safe and their factory area clean.
What are your responsibilities in your role at APS, and what industry experience do you have?
I’m an Area Sales Manager, so my job is to speak to our cross-sector customers about their needs, and provide tailored solutions that keep their air and processes clean.
What experience do you have working within dust and fume extraction/manufacturing?
I worked as an Account Manager in the aftermarket division for another dust and fume extraction firm, targeting new accounts whilst growing existing ones. I was proud to grow my area’s monthly average to over five times what it was, while gaining three years of direct industry experience.
Before this, I worked for a vacuum pump manufacturer helping to quote and provide solutions for anything requiring pressure pumps. I also have a sales and marketing apprenticeship under my belt, that I completed after leaving school, which helped build confidence and gave me the ability to hold a conversation with just about anybody
What’s your proudest career achievement so far?
My proudest career achievement to date would be for my previous company finishing the year on 130% of target, whilst having a 26% increase that year.
Personally, my proudest achievement would be that me and my partner are expecting our first baby in October.
What are your main goals in your role at APS?
One, to further develop my knowledge and experience as Area Sales Manager, and two, to have a long career with APS, who are such an amazing company to be a part of.
What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve been given?
People buy solutions not products – if you have understood your customers pain points then you can tailor your solution to help – building trust and strengthening relationships.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Steak and eggs, with halloumi on the side.
What gets you up in the morning (other than an alarm clock)
Most days it’s the dog using me as a step to see out the window…
Any other notable hobbies/facts about you?
My hobbies are golf, gym, and of course, spending time with the lads.
