APS supports incredible ‘Tandem to the Thames’ challenge
APS is pleased to be supporting James Badger’s incredible ‘Tandem to the Thames’ challenge, which will see our director Adrian Ogden joining James on his 500km cycle from St James’ Church, Birstwith, to St James’, London.
In 2022, James’ wife Philippa was diagnosed with blood cancer, and sadly passed away two days later, while being treated with chemotherapy at St James’ Hospital in Leeds.
For the past two years, James has undertaken two major cycling challenges, cycling 1,600km from Lands’ End to John O’Groat’s in 2023, and 29,000ft up to the same elevation as Mount Everest in 2024 which also saw Adrian getting his bike out to help James in this crazy challenge.
This year will see James embarking on a 500km trip from North Yorkshire down to London on a 42-year-old vintage tandem bike, marking the same age Philippa was when she died.
And if that wasn’t enough of a challenge, James will also be running the London Marathon!
Adrian will join James in cycling the 500km journey, which is taking place across the three days leading up to the London Marathon.

The ‘Tandem to the Thames’ challenge is in aid of Blood Cancer UK, raising funds for a research project at York University into treatments of Acute Myeloid Leukemia, which currently has a survival rate of just 10%.
A three year fully funded research programme will cost £300,000, with every donation helping to ensure this life-saving research can continue.
An amazing £22,000 has been raised so far, with Morrisons, VW, and APS lending support.
Speaking about James’ challenge, Adrian said: “I’m delighted to be supporting James in his inspiring challenge in aid of Blood Cancer UK. All the funds raised will provide support to fund critical research into treatments for blood cancer, ultimately helping to save lives.”
