Here at APS, we’re keen to celebrate our talented team, and spotlight the vast expertise and experience we have on hand when developing the best dust and fume extraction solutions for our customers.
The second part of our Employee Spotlight series sees us speaking to Katie Burrell, a Project Engineer at APS. Katie joined our team recently, and brings eight years of industry experience to her role, with previous time spent working in technical support.
What is your job role at APS, and what are your main responsibilities?
My role at APS is a Project Engineer, helping to manage the planning and execution of the Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) solutions we provide at APS.
How many years of experience do you have working within dust and fume extraction?
I’ve spent eight years in total working within the dust and fume extraction industry.
What did you do prior to working at APS?
Before working for APS, I worked as Technical Support for Camfil APC, and an Estimating Project Engineer at Howorth Air Technologies.

What relevant industry experience do you have that you bring to the firm?
Prior to joining APS, I spent eight years working in dust and fume extraction at an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), with six of those eight years spent as the technical contact for all sales engineers in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).
Do you have any particular qualifications (industry specific or otherwise)?
I have a P601 qualification, as a Local Exhaust Ventilation Engineer. This qualification enables me to examine LEV systems and decide whether they can sufficiently control hazards and meet benchmark performance levels, as well as identify solutions for any faults uncovered.
What’s your proudest career and personal achievement to date?
My proudest career achievement so far has been becoming a Project Engineer at APS. My proudest personal achievement however was purchasing my first home.
What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve ever been given?
I think the best advice I’ve had, is “Think twice, do once.”
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Cheese and biscuits.
What gets you up in the morning= (other than an alarm clock)
The cat…
Any other notable hobbies/facts about you?
I play field hockey for my local town.
